4 Best Recipe Organisers for Physical records

Recipe organisers are for anyone who loves to cook! Even the best cook is always looking out for new recipes and ideas. When we were young, we cut out recipes from magazines, got some handwritten recipes from our mums and grandparents, or copied recipes out on pieces of paper from cookbooks. We actually still have some of those and we treasure them as these recipes always bring back memories.

Today it is very easy to store recipes digitally and to find new recipe ideas online but organising them the ‘old fashioned’ way as physical recipes and keeping them in a safe place is important to many. Luckily there are lots of practical folders, binders and boxes available to sort and organise these memorable recipes.

Things to consider before buying

Capacity

How many recipes do you wish to store and will you collect more in the future?  A box might be enough to keep your existing collection, but if you intend to increase your collection, an organiser that can expand or accommodate refills is a good choice.

Organisation

Organising recipes can be done in different ways. For recipes from magazines and other books, a binder could work perfectly, but for those who like to write recipes on cards, a box would be the better option. Check how many recipes you have and how to best organise them. This could be in alphabetical order, or by ingredient or meal type. Just keep in mind you will probably want to store them close to your kitchen.

Overview of best recipe organisers

Best recipe binder – Jot & Mark Recipe 3 Ring Binder

This colourful, charming, and durable 3 ring binder holds 30 clear vinyl plastic  sleeve protectors and 6 labelled dividers. Customising the recipe cards is easy and keeping them clean with a wipe is straightforward. Be careful when buying extra inserts as there are different qualities available. Whatever design you choose, these binders have a touch of retro look, are good organisers and will brighten up any kitchen!

Best wooden recipe box – OUTSHINE Wooden Recipe Box with Cards and Dividers

This vintage looking recipe box comes with 28 adhesive labels to easily personalise the tabs. To organise the recipes, stick a label on the tabbed portion. 6×4 recipe card dividers and 24 cards are made from durable, high-quality thick cardstock. We’ll add a bonus point because the cards can stand on top of the box during cooking which makes it easy to read the recipe. This makes a perfect gift for anyone who likes cooking but works also great as a bridal shower, wedding, birthday, or mother’s day gift!

Best decorative recipe box – Jot & Mark Decorative Recipe Tin Box for Recipe Cards

This tin box is another Jot & Mark product that is available in three decorative themes. This box is compatible with standard 4 x 6 inch recipe cards but take note that these are not included when buying the box! Once closed, it is a bit hard to pop off the lid which means your cards are well protected. Although this box is not our favourite choice, it is a beautiful way to store recipes and it will fit in any kitchen.

Best expanding – ABC life 26 Pockets Accordian File Organizer Expanding File Folders

It is not the best looking recipe holder in this list, and not our favourite, but this accordion file organiser has 26 pockets to store A4 size files and can be extended to 70cm (28”). Organisation is easy alphabetically with A-Z tabs. This organiser isn’t especially attractive but very practical for storing a lot of recipes and other files. It is also the most budget friendly option.

Conclusion

Sharing recipes and holding on to them, whether it’s a memory or simply a really good cooking tip will always be common. The above mentioned organisers are practical, but nowadays it is almost impossible to keep all recipes manually organised as there are so many available online.
